HARRY SHOWS GRACE UNDER PRESSURE

Ernest Hemingway once said that courage is grace under pressure.  If anyone epitomizes that definition, it’s Prince Harry, along with his wife Meghan Markel. In comparison to the current King Charles  and his oldest son Willian, Harry has shown more courage in his little pinky than the two of them together.  He had to give up all his royal privileges and inherent wealth in order to follow his own moral compass. The media and  Tories over in the UK , and here in America have engineered a brutal assault against his chances for happiness,  And yet, he goes on.   Such is the stuff of nobility that true Kings have demonstrated  throughout history, in every continent and island in the  world. Harry shows grace under pressure.

PRINCE HARRY SHOWS GRACE UNDER PRESSURE. He gave up status and mega wealth to stand up for his beliefs.

What real pressure have King Charles of England and his heir apparent had to face? Both of them have had the monarchy in the bag from the day they were born. Besides, they both have piles of money accumulated over centuries of ruling the English people.  Harry’s inheritance from Princess Diana is a pittance compared to what those two have under their belt.

Harry’s radiant and inspiring  appearance at the Invictus Games is, in itself, a sign of his true nobility. Having started the game for disabled men and women soon after bravely serving 10 years in the British Air Force.  The Brits may have sour grapes, but the rest of the world  seems to love Harry and Meghan.  The Nigerians see her  as a warrior princess: Royal Wife.

Of course the two of them have made some mistakes and done  a few cringe-worthy things, but isn’t that what humans do?  Former governor of California Jerry Brown recently said that all politicians make mistakes.  That’s part of being a real live person, not some stiff robot that never steps out of line, choreographs his every move, and never makes a public gaffe.

Harry  has inherited his mother’s empathy, and easily engages with both the young and old. He is truly the people’s Prince, just as Diana  was the people’s princess.

A ROYALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY

As Tolstoy once wrote,” happy families are all alike;  unhappy families are  unhappy in their own way. ” Witnessing  the funeral ceremonies after the death of Queen Elizabeth,  we saw many signs  of a royally dysfunctional family.   For example:

King Charles’ facial redness suggests  some type of medical problem.  The most common cause of ruddiness is rosacea which can be triggered by  sun exposure, heat, stress, alcohol, or medicines prescribed for blood pressure.   Hopefully, it’s nothing more  serious, but he doesn’t present a picture of vibrant health. .

Queen Consort Camilla’s face is wrinkled as a Slovenian peasant.   Most 70 year old women who’ve led a cushy city life have smoother skin.  Does she smoke too much?  Go to sun tan parlors? It’s a puzzle.  Maybe it’s stress.   If her husband is a billionaire, seems like she could easily afford some type of facial treatment like dermabrasion or retinol.  If she lives as long  as Queen Elizabeth, she’s going  look like a scary old hag unless she  gets some help.   Hopefully, by then, she’ll have ditched the brassy yellow hair.

A ROYALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY WAS on full display during the Queen's funeral.
A ROYALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY WAS ON FULL DISHPLAY DURING THE QUEEN’S FUNERAL.

Princess Anne wearing a military uniform when she’s never actually served in the military.  The media raved that she looked like a powerful woman in her uniform..  Personally, I thought she resembled a World War II  comic book character .  Let’s face it, pulchritude is not her long suit.  Dressing like a man didn’t do much for her looks..

Prince  Andrew,  accused sex addict and friend of  notorious sex offender Epstein.  His Mom spent  16 million dollars settling  a lawsuit claiming he solicited the services of  an underage woman.    He’s pretty well toast right now as far as the public is concerned, and from the expression on his face, I think he knows it. .  Maybe he ought to start his own business, or head off to America..

Prince Harry looking totally disgusted the entire time..  First , he had to wear  a morning coat like his disgraced uncle Andrew,.  Then, His Dad maybe had a few Scotch whiskies that night and decided, hey, we’ll let Harry wear his uniform after all.  Then, the next day, they changed their mind, and once again  had him back in a dark suit .    And Harry wouldn’t even sing “God Save The King.”  He was probably thinking his Mom would be alive today if she hadn’t been messed over by the old man.

The ongoing feud between brothers,  William and Harry.  They kept their distance from one another, and you didn’t see much eye contact.  Doesn’t look like they’ll get together over the holidays.

Young Prince George pinching his royal sister, hard enough to make her cry.  Aggressive behavior in a 9 year old calls for some serious counseling.  Why is little George so hostile?  Kate and William better get this straightened out before he reaches puberty.

The turnout for the Queen’s funeral procession was impressive.  You have to give her credit for putting up with a lot over the years, and keeping a stiff upper lip.  I guess that’s what the English are known for.  Now that she’s gone, you wonder how long the monarchy will last.

WHERE WILL HARRY STAY?

Since he’s persona non grata in the UK, you have to wonder: where  will Prince Harry stay when he comes back to London for his Grandpa’s funeral next week?  As everyone knows, the Brits are  pretty mad about his interview with Oprah  when he bashed the monarchy over the way his wife was treated.

Some people have said Harry  shouldn’t be allowed back in England after he threw his family under the bus while Prince Phillip was in the hospital. On the other hand, Americans, for the most part, have a favorable view of Harry and Meghan.  Maybe he should have just sent his respects and stayed in California?  I don’t think so. He has every right to attend the funeral of his Grandfather with whom he was very close, from all accounts.

Where will Harry stay? The Brits are mad at him, so he won't be welcome many places.
Where will Harry stay when he returns for his Grandpa’s funeral?  Once he was popular, but now he’s persona non grata in England. .

Anyway, back to his accommodations.  My husband and I have a bet–he says Harry will be put up at Windsor Castle.  I say he won’t be invited, and even if he were, he wouldn’t accept.   It’s possible he might  stay with some of his mom’s relatives in the Spencer family.  I imagine they would welcome him with open arms.  But today, I read that he will probably stay with Princess Eugenie.  That makes sense.

Besides being best cousin-friends, they have another, stronger bond.  Eugenie’s dad, Prince Andrew brought some serious disgrace to the royals, after  cavorting with  the infamous Jeffrey Epstein’s underage female friends. So Eugenie understands what it’s like to be the family black sheep.  Of all the relatives, she would probably be the least judgmental of whatever Harry said or did in the Oprah interview.

At any rate, I doubt if Harry will  be staying at the London Hilton or the Best Western.  Royals don’t stay in motels or hotels.

During  tense family funerals, relatives who envy or despise each other  are forced to be in the same room.   It’s surprisingly doable. You manage not to stand near one another.  And if you do come face to face, you simply smile and move on. Above all, you avoid conflict out of respect for the deceased.  But don’t expect any warm reconciliations..  Family feuds run dark and deep  over real or imagined injustices.

Meanwhile, where will Harry stay?

KARMA STRIKES BACK AT CHARLES

Does anyone remember when Princess Di Married  the Prince of Wales?  From the outside  it looked like a fairytale marriage.  When, in fact, it was a nightmare from the git go.  How many bridegrooms would leave their betrothed alone in a dark room the night before their wedding, while schmoozing on the phone with his old girlfriend?  Apparently, Diana wanted to back out, but her sisters told her she had to go through with it.  She married a man who didn’t love her, and she knew it. If he’d kept it to himself and put on a good show, it wouldn’t have been so bad. But Charles treated her like dirt, divorced her, married Camilla, and thought he got away with it.  But he didn’t.  Because now, bad karma strikes back at Charles.

Karma strikes back at Charles. He treated Di badly, and now it's come back to haunt him.
Karma strikes back at Charles. His sons suffered from the way he treated their mother.

How can anyone believe that the sons of this disastrous union wouldn’t be somewhat psyched up?  Apparently, William was old enough to handle his mother’s miserable marriage, divorce,  and untimely death.  But Harry was just a little kid. At twelve years old, forced to march in a parade behind his mother’s coffin. It’s a miracle he ended up so well.

After the Oprah interview last week with Meghan and Harry, the British press went bonkers. How could Harry say such horrible things about his family on public television?  The question is, why wouldn’t he?   A victim should be able to tell his side of the story in the end.  And yes, Harry was a victim of his father’s narcissistic treatment of his mother.  Are we saying that people with money don’t have emotional problems? That if they do have them, they should be ashamed of themselves?

I have no idea why Charles was such a callous person. Maybe it went back to his Mom trying so hard to be a queen that she didn’t have much time for mothering. Not to mention dealing with a notoriously womanizing husband.  That’s the thing about karma.  It just goes on and on, echoing down through the centuries.

Maybe Harry and Meghan are trying to give their kids some good karma by moving to America.  I hope it works. Because bad karma is striking back at Charles right now.

SHOULD YOU ASK SOMEONE TO LOSE WEIGHT?

The media has taken out after poor Meghan Markle again.  This time, they’re saying that she had the nerve to tell her husband to lose weight.  On top of that, they claim she’s started picking out his clothes.  Where do they come up with all this supposedly inside information?  Was a reporter hiding in their bedroom closet?  Maybe someone noticed Prince Harry  had dropped a few pounds , and concocted this story.  But it does present a moral issue:   Should you ask someone to lose weight? Should you help your husband pick out new clothes?

Body shaming is another matter.  It’s harmful to make fun of someone’s size.  My sister struggled with overweight as a young adult, and was often  the target of ridicule. She ended up taking so many diet pills that it affected her mental health for the rest of her life.

Should a wife tell a husband to lose some weight
A caring wife may ask her husband to lose some weight.

On the other hand, what is so terrible about a concerned wife suggesting her husband lose a few pounds?  Seem to me, it’s the caring thing to do.  My husband has bad knees, and must walk with a cane.  When he starts complaining, I’m apt to suggest he take off a few pounds to relieve the pressure on his joints.  Maintaining a normal  weight is also important for heart health.  On top of that, he’s a diabetic.  Is  a wife supposed to ignore it when her husband starts packing on the pounds?

Research has shown that the loss of 10 pounds can lead to a healthier life. Benefits may include:  1) 50% reduction in heart disease.  2) 60% reduction in diabetes risk. 3) 50 % decrease in arthritis.

What’s so mean and terrible about that?

About the clothes issue:  My husband always wants me with him when he buys new clothes.  I can tell him which colors are unflattering,  or when the shoulders of a jacket or sweater are too saggy—things he doesn’t always notice. By the same token, I want his advice on what to wear for special occasions.  Seems to me that’s one good thing about having a loving spouse or partner.

So I’m asking the media: please leave Meghan alone.  It won’t hurt Harry at all to lose some weight.  And it might inspire others to do the same.

IS MEGHAN A MODERN CINDERELLA?

Does anyone remember watching the wedding of Meghan & Harry?  The look on his face , as he whispered, “I’m so lucky?”  Yes, he is lucky, because he married a woman who is much stronger than he. She’s a  middle class , biracial American girl.   He’s the entitled British prince who  rescued her from an uncertain future.  That’s how it appears on the surface.  But is Meghan a Modern Cinderella?  I don’t think so.

Her parents divorced at an early age, and it appears she came from a dysfunctional step family.  In spite of those disadvantages, she  was a go getter from an early age.    She attended the prestigious Northwestern University and graduated with a double major.  From there, she went on to a successful acting career, culminating in a seven year run in the Canadian television show, Suits.  In 2014, she started a wildly successful lifestyle blog called Tig, which attracted millions of viewers,

Contrast that with Prince Harry.  He was born into privilege.   Safe to say he’s never worried about job interviews.   He hasn’t done anything on his own.  He didn’t graduate from college, but was handed a career in the Royal military.

Unlike Meghan,  he never  had to rely on his talents, or work his way up from nowhere.  If it weren’t for his royal family, he wouldn’t be much of a catch. He’s admitted to some serious  emotional problems due to his mother’s tragic death  at the age of  twelve.  Also, he’s  spent his entire adult life with  people questioning  his paternity.  Think  how upsetting to constantly see pictures of your supposed “real father,” in the tabloids, all the while wondering if you really are a royal.

Marrying Meghan was probably the best thing that ever happened to Harry
Harry knew he was lucky on the day he married Meghan.

Marrying Meghan was probably the best thing that ever happened to Harry.. She’s talented, but tough.   He needs her strength to bolster his fragile sense of self.  Emotionally, she appears to be the much stronger of the two.  And far more accomplished.

Meghan has been criticized for leaving the royal family.  Actually, it looks like she rescued Harry from a dreary, stilted life of performing royal duties.   If it weren’t for her, he would have spent the rest of his life in the shadow of his brother, doing what he was told, and watching his p’s and q’s.  Meghan has freed him from all of that and given him a chance to reinvent himself, and chart his own path.

Is Meghan Markle  really a Cinderella who was rescued by Prince Charming?   Or was Harry the prince who was rescued by Wonder Woman?

EVERYBODY LOVES A BABY

Most people don’t like to be in a roomful of strangers.  You know nothing about them—whether they’re hateful , rude, snobby, or unpleasant to be around.  When entering a restaurant in a new  city, we don’t feel comfortable surrounded by men and women we’ve never met.  Then, someone walks in the door with a baby , and the whole atmosphere changes.   People smile and wave.  Everybody loves a baby.

Babies bring families together
EVERYONE LOVES TO SEE A CUTE LITTLE BABY

Science has proven that the maternal instinct is wired into women’s  brains.  And it’s a good thing, because those “love” hormones get a parent though  a lot of sleepless nights.  But even if it isn’t your own child or grandchild, most people sort of melt when they see a sweet little baby.  Why is that? Psychologists say it’s because we feel safe and secure around a baby. They aren’t judging us.  If we smile at them, they often smile back.  And even if they cry, we still think they’re cute because we know it has nothing to do with us, personally.  Maybe they’re tired, or sick, or  afraid of strangers—just like we are.

They’re sweet  and appealing and uninhibited.  We love the softness of their skin and the brightness of their eyes. They remind us of our own children when they were babies, and bring back wonderful memories.

Best of all, a new baby  often brings families closer together. Family feuds and past resentments fade away at holiday gatherings  when there’s a baby in the midst.  You don’t have to force conversation or talk politics.  All you have to do is ooh and aah while a toddler takes his first steps, or holds out her arms to be held. And sometimes, relatives who have been estranged are reunited when a new baby is born.  Everybody loves a baby.

Family feuds are forgotten when a new baby arrives
A NEW BABY OFTEN BRINGS FAMILIES TOGETHER

“Pretty Baby” was a popular hit tune written in 1915.  But most of us who are alive today remember it as  crooner Dean Martin’s hit album in 1957.

PRETTY BABY

Everybody loves a baby
That’s why I’m in love with you
Pretty baby, pretty baby
And I’d like to be your sister
Brother, dad and mother too
Pretty baby, pretty baby

Won’t you come and let me
Rock you in my cradle of love?
And we’ll cuddle all the time
Oh, I want a lovin’, baby
And it might as well be you
Pretty baby of mine

Everybody loves a baby
That’s why I’m in love with you
Pretty baby, pretty baby
